Reclaim Your Eyebrows

January 10, 2018 by Kathy Haney Leave a Comment

Eyebrows are a very important facial feature. They give our face character, providing the means of giving expression and emotion and they give our face substance by defining our eyes. It doesn’t matter whether you like them straight, arched, feathered, or bold, a good pair of eyebrows is a good source of confidence.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of tattoo that creates a more natural look that actually resembles hair strokes in the brows. This procedure can not only be used to enhance the beauty of existing brows, but can also be used to help patients who have no brows due to alopecia, scarring, or other medical conditions.

Preparation

A week before your procedure, you should avoid using retinol, drinking, and taking aspirin. Alcohol, NSAIDs, and blood thinners make your skin thin, which will make you bleed more during the procedure. As in any situation and in everyday life, especially before your procedure, staying hydrated by drinking lots of water is very important.

It may not be as deep as a regular tattoo, but it is still considered one because the pigment is going beneath the skin. It’s not used with a machine, but rather a manual handheld tool. The tool is used to draw hair-like strokes into the brow, which will mimic the natural hairs in your brows.

Expectations

The pain (if there is any), is nothing to worry about.  Some may tolerate it more than others but it’s not unbearable. The feeling to which it can be equated to is that it feels like tiny scratches. If the patient would prefer little to no pain, a topical numbing agent or a Lidocaine injection can be administered before the procedure. No pain, no problem!

Time

Microblading isn’t a lunch time procedure. When making your appointment, you’ll be blocking off about two hours from your schedule. This isn’t something you’ll want your skincare provider to rush through.

Aftercare

Immediately after the treatment, mild redness and swelling is to be expected. You’ll want to protect your newly bladed eyebrows from any form of moisture, so avoid sweating or splashing your face with water. Some redness or itching may be experienced by some patients, but Vaseline can help lessen those symptoms.

Results

The results of the treatment are different for every person, but they can last from 6 months to 3 years. Minor touch ups may be needed.
